As Valentine’s Day quickly approaches, (Yes. It’s Thursday!) we’ve put together some Valentine’s Day inspiration from Doolin, for those of us who leave everything to the last minute!
Gift a Valentine’s Love Hamper
Spoil your loved one this Valentine’s Day with a Valentine’s Love Hamper from the Burren Smokehouse. Nothing says ‘I love you’ like a collection of indulgent treats and delicacies.
The hamper is made up of classic Burren cold smoked Irish organic salmon, Burren hot smoked Irish organic salmon with spices, 2 x 200ml bottles of Prosecco, a box of Valentine Chocolate Love Squares from Chez Emily, a box of Sheridan’s Crackers and 2 small jars of Crossogue jams.
Why not take your loved one on a romantic picnic to the Burren?
Discover the love story of Diarmuid & Grainne at Loop Head
Take a spin out to Loop Head and discover ‘Lovers’ Leap’ – legend has it that lovers Diarmuid and Grainne made their way to lands end in West Clare when trying to escape the army of Diarmuid’s bitter suitor, Queen Maeve. Seemingly trapped when surrounded by water on three sides and the army on the other, they escaped when Diarmuid lifted Grainne into his arms and leaped to an outcrop of rock, now known as Diarmuid and Grainne’s Rock.
In the village of Kilbaha, you can also find a beautiful sculpture made by the artist Jim Connolly based on the love story of Diarmuid and Gráinne.
A great day out for the old-school romantics!
‘Hang out together’ in the Burren
For the alternative romantics who like a bit of adrenaline-fueled adventure, Doolin Inn has an amazing Valentine’s package which includes a day of wonderful Sea Cliff Climbing in the Burren with Climb It, a romantic 2 night stay in Doolin Inn with breakfast each morning and a packed lunch for your day out. If you’re feeling extra-romantic, why not add a bottle of champagne to enjoy on arrival, followed by dinner in one of the local pubs, and some great ‘ceol agus craic’!
This is one of the most unique Valentine’s gifts you will find, and will definitely deliver a few screams..
Put a Ring on it
The infamous Claddagh Ring made up of two hands clasping a crowned heart is one of the most romantic Irish gifts you can give or receive. This simple but unique motif that is so rich in romantic symbolism has made the Claddagh Ring an instantly recognizable icon of Irish culture. The ring has been popular among Irish people and the Irish diaspora as a wedding and friendship ring often passed through generations. What is the meaning of a Claddagh Ring you ask?
“The Hand is for Friendship,
the Heart is for Love,
and Loyalty is Shown,
With the Crown up Above.”
Beautiful Claddagh Rings can be purchased from Irish Crafts in Doolin.
